EIT Climate-KIC Young Ecopreneurs Climathon 2021 Malaga: Nature-based Solutions in Lagunillas neighborhood

Program: from Monday October 25 to Thursday October 29, four 3h sessions

Participants: 16 people (4 teams), students from University of Malaga, in particular: MsC in Environmental Analysis and Management, MsC in Entrepreneurship, senior students of BsC in Environmental Sciences or Biology

Awards: interviews and promotion of projects, others to be confirmed

Educational goals

  • Know in detail the climate impacts and risks faced by Malaga and specifically the Lagunillas neighborhood due to its urban structure, economy and social vulnerabilities
  • Learn basic notions about the tools of NbS and economic localization for climate resilience
  • Acquire a first experience of social entrepreneurship for climate action

Methodology and venues

This climathon has been conceived with an eminently practical approach based on research and field work in the Lagunillas neighborhood, over 4 sessions:

  • 1st session (Monday Oct 25, 4-7 pm, Lagunillas): Climate Journey around Lagunillas, with an introduction to NbS and economic localization; identification of specific eco-social and economic challenges linked to the climate crisis in the neighborhood 
  • 2nd session (Tuesday 26 Oct, 4-7 pm, Lagunillas): identification of social entrepreneurship opportunities for climate action, design of value proposition according to the principles of IUCN Global Standard for NbS and of economic localization
  • 3rd session (Wednesday Oct 27, 4-7 pm, El Ejido – University of Malaga): mentoring to enhance the value proposition; preparation of presentations
  • 4th session (Thursday, Oct 28, 6-7:30 pm, El Ejido – University of Malaga): final presentations, feedback from jury and awards

Registration is free of charge. Maximum of 16 participants, who must be students from the University of Malaga.
